✦ The Science ✦
healing Evidence-Based Benefits

Why Massage Therapy
Works

The benefits of regular massage are well-documented in clinical research. Here's what the science — and thousands of happy clients — confirm.

psychology

Reduces Stress

Massage lowers cortisol (the stress hormone) by up to 31% and increases serotonin and dopamine — the body's natural mood elevators.

nights_stay

Improves Sleep

By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, massage promotes deeper, longer sleep — particularly effective for insomnia and restless nights.

directions_walk

Boosts Circulation

Massage stimulates blood and lymphatic flow, delivering oxygen to muscle tissue and removing metabolic waste more efficiently.

accessibility_new

Increases Flexibility

Regular massage improves the elasticity of fascia and muscles, reducing stiffness and increasing range of motion — especially with Thai technique.

healing

Relieves Chronic Pain

Clinical studies show massage to be as effective as medication for chronic back pain, neck pain and tension headaches — with no side effects.

sentiment_very_satisfied

Lifts Mood

Massage reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, with effects comparable to exercise — proven across multiple peer-reviewed trials.

fitness_center

Speeds Recovery

Sports massage reduces DOMS, clears lactic acid and restores muscle length — helping athletes train harder and more consistently.

favorite

Strengthens Immunity

Studies show massage increases the activity of natural killer cells — the body's front-line immune defence — by up to 40%.

Preparing for your massage
✦ Preparation ✦
Getting Ready

How to Prepare
for Your Session

A little preparation makes a significant difference to your experience. Here's what we recommend.

water_drop

Stay well hydrated

Drink plenty of water before and after your massage. Hydrated muscle tissue responds better to massage and recovers faster from the session.

restaurant

Eat light beforehand

Avoid a heavy meal within 90 minutes of your session. A light snack is fine — you'll be far more comfortable lying face down on a full stomach.

checkroom

Wear comfortable clothing

For traditional Thai massage (no oil), loose comfortable clothes are ideal. For oil treatments, we provide towels and appropriate draping throughout.

health_and_safety

Share any health information

Please let us know about any injuries, health conditions, medications or recent surgeries during your consultation. This is confidential and helps us tailor the session safely.

smartphone

Switch to silent

Even if it's just for 30 minutes — put your phone on silent and give yourself permission to fully disconnect. The emails will wait. This time is yours.

✦ Aftercare ✦
After Your Session

Getting the Most
from Your Massage

What you do in the hours after your massage matters. These simple tips maximise the benefits.

water_drop

Drink Water

Drink at least 2 glasses of water after your session. Massage releases toxins from muscle tissue — water helps flush them efficiently.

nights_stay

Rest if You Can

Your body is still processing the effects for several hours. Resting — even briefly — amplifies the relaxation response significantly.

fitness_center

Avoid Intense Exercise

Give your muscles 24 hours before intense training. Light walking is fine and actually helps with circulation and recovery.

thermostat

Avoid Hot Baths

Wait a few hours before a hot bath or sauna. Your circulation is already elevated — combining treatments can cause light-headedness.

calendar_month

Book Regularly

One massage is wonderful. Regular massage is transformative. Monthly sessions for maintenance; weekly for therapeutic goals.

feedback

Let Us Know

Share how you feel after your session — positive and constructive. It helps June refine future treatments specifically for your body.

✦ FAQ ✦
help Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

Do I need to undress for a Thai massage?expand_more
For traditional Thai massage — no. You remain fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing throughout. For oil-based treatments (Swedish, Aromatherapy, Relaxing Oil, Thai Hot Oil), you will undress to your comfort level. You are fully draped with towels at all times, and only the area being worked on is exposed. Your modesty and comfort are always paramount.
Is massage painful?expand_more
Therapeutic massage (deep tissue, sports) can involve some discomfort in areas of tension — this is often described as a "productive ache" rather than sharp pain. You should always communicate your comfort level with June, and the pressure will be adjusted immediately. Relaxation massages should feel deeply comfortable throughout. Pain is never the goal.
How often should I come for a massage?expand_more
This depends on your goals. For general wellness and stress management, once or twice a month is excellent. For chronic pain, injury recovery or athletic performance, weekly sessions are most effective initially — tapering to fortnightly as the condition improves. We're happy to advise based on your specific situation during your consultation.
Which treatment should I choose for my first visit?expand_more
If you're new to massage, we recommend either Swedish Oil (gentle, flowing, ideal introduction) or Traditional Thai Massage (no oils, energising, wonderful for overall wellbeing). If you have specific issues — back pain, sports recovery, headaches — then a therapeutic option may be better. Call us or use the notes section when booking and we'll help guide you to the right treatment.
Can I talk to June during the session?expand_more
Absolutely — and please do if you need the pressure adjusted, feel uncomfortable, or have a question. Most clients find they naturally drift into a quiet, meditative state and prefer silence. June will follow your lead. There's no obligation either way.
What forms of payment do you accept?expand_more
We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards. You can pay in person after your session. Online bookings do not require payment in advance — you pay when you arrive.
Can I book for someone else as a gift?expand_more
Gift sessions are a lovely idea and warmly welcomed. Please call us on 07516 755925 and we can arrange a gift session for any treatment and duration. Alternatively, have the recipient book directly using our online system at their preferred time.
What is your cancellation policy?expand_more
We kindly ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. We understand that things come up — please just let us know as soon as possible so we can offer the slot to another client. Same-day cancellations may be subject to a late fee.
